Nutcracker Suite on Bike Parts

Nutcracker Suite on Wine and WheelsI don’t know how I missed this one, but here is Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite performed entirely on bicycle parts.

Heated Bicycle Saddle

Iron Saddle on WineandWheels.com While this splendidly envisioned heated bike seat looks about as comfortable as the saddles for real men, I think the battery-powered upside-down iron wins. From Momentum via Make:

Iron Saddle
Who hasn’t suffered from ‘cold butt’ while riding in winter, at least in the northern parts of the continent?… A battery, a 12 volt iron (without steam option) and voila! Toasty Buns! And of course if you are truly nimble you can iron your clothes while you ride.

Wine Glass @ Sur La Table

Wine Glass While I don’t recommend heading to the mall today, if you happen to find yourself there and need a last-minute gift for that wine-lover in your life, check out these glasses at Sur La Table.

Pedal Power this New Year’s Eve

Times Square Happy holidays everyone! When the ball drops this year in New York City, remember that it is bicycle powered:

The ritual dropping of the ball in New York’s Times Square on New Year’s eve, seen on television by millions around the world, is becoming a bit greener than in years past.

The 2-0-0-9 sign that will light up when the New Year’s ball finishes its descent will be powered by batteries charged by people pedaling on bicycles.

Let’s hope the whole event this year will be powered by bikes (so far they’ve collected 35% of the necessary power).

PennyFarthing Wines

PennyFarthing Cabernet

To continue with the recent penny farthing posts, the penny farthing being the first “true” bicycle where a reasonable distance was achieved in a realistic time-period, here is a great looking wine from PennyFarthing Wines.

The name of the bike, Penny Farthing, is from two British coins where the latter is worth 1/4 of the earlier: one wheel much larger than the other. In the wine world, perhaps, the “penny” could be the wine barrel, and the “farthing” the wine bottle. That would be an interesting idea for a combination wine / bike image. If you take that idea and run with it, do credit me as a source.

Welcome to Wine and Wheels December 2008 Redesign!

Let’s get right down to it, this is what I’ve been up to:

this took a long time

First off, I taught myself that a wine bottle is good, but one sticking off the left side of your header is freakin’ awesome! If the mouse-over tool tip doesn’t say it enough, I’ll say it again: this took a long time. Appreciate it folks.

Next up isthisguy this little guy, the little icon-y thing that/who says that I wrote this post just for you. Yay. Do you feel special now? Look at the wine glasses, the precision, the pour. I spent all of 2 minutes on this one, so knock it all you want. I still think it looks good.

And all you bicyclists hangin’ out in the corner, rehydrating, I hear ya: I have a little something just for you.andthisone If you don’t like it, well, I don’t really care that much but it’s pretty neat. You have a bicycle right next to the category links. Speaking of which, here’s something kind of important: categories are posted on the frontpage and tags are posted on the individual posts. That is to say, if you want to read something related to the thing you are reading, click through on the title link and find the tags at the bottom. If you can’t handle this, I’ve got some related posts links for you fresh off the press. Just click ‘em.

Oh yeah, I’m not allowed to say this, but if you happen to enjoy an advertisement that might appear somewhere on this page, and, say, you click on it, well … that just might buy me a cup of coffee. Or a gumball. (Do gumballs still exist?)

Bicycle Bar, A.k.a Pedal Pub

pedalpub4Ok folks, how can we get this in a wine bar version? Wine glasses hanging upside down all classy like from the roof, and perhaps a corking fee if you pedal up with your own bottle?

Postcard Gallery at The Virtual Corkscrew Museum

On a recent episode of 30 Rock, Tina Fey’s character, Liz Lemon, ever interested in food, exclaims “I want to go to there” when enticed with a gift certificate to a steak house. Well, seeing that there was a corkscrew museum in France, and a virtual museum online, makes me feel the same way.

Hit the link for the virtual tour.

Santa on a Bike

On the cover of the New Yorker for Dec 15th, Santa Claus apparently had to let some workers go. Here he is taking a pedicab to deliver presents. Click on the image to see a larger view. In good times and in bad people ride bikes.

Spare Tire Belt: Gift Idea

Not only are these belts cool-looking, they are each made by hand to order. In their words:

Snack On offers young designers a chance to explore production methods new and old. With inventive use of new and reclaimed materials Snack On offers clever designs with in [sic] reach.

I’m always a fan of reusing bike parts, and this looks like a great way to do so. I wonder, how are the tubes cleaned? Rubber tubes are really dirty and smelly, not something I would like to wear. Still, I might have to give this a go.

Borat Wine Tasting – Video

A little long, but classic Borat. Warning, Borat offends almost everyone.
