Pedal Power this New Year’s Eve

Times Square Happy holidays everyone! When the ball drops this year in New York City, remember that it is bicycle powered:

The ritual dropping of the ball in New York’s Times Square on New Year’s eve, seen on television by millions around the world, is becoming a bit greener than in years past.

The 2-0-0-9 sign that will light up when the New Year’s ball finishes its descent will be powered by batteries charged by people pedaling on bicycles.

Let’s hope the whole event this year will be powered by bikes (so far they’ve collected 35% of the necessary power).

Fruit Crate Art

A nice site where you can find fruit crate art. Pictured here is the FINGER LAKE GRAPES Niagara, E.R. Underwood, Middlesex, N.Y., Shippers of Grapes in carlots, wine or “Table Grapes”; Shows three different heritage grape varieties.

Rear Passenger Seat: Devicycles

I’m not quite sure that my wife would approve of this bike hack, but I really like the looks of it. The tubes seem to be aluminum and are perhaps the stock this banana seat came with (see this photo for comparison). A set of old-school rear pegs completes this passenger seating area. All in all, I don’t think this additional bike seat would be too uncomfortable. Found in NYC’s meat-packing district.
